Ben works as a Recovery Tutor within the Recovery Education Unit.
He has had ten years of experience as a service user, during which he’s battled through many highs, lows, strange beliefs and experiences. Ben has used recovery approaches to rediscover a life with a sense of purpose beyond his medical diagnosis, despite the ongoing presence of what some might call symptoms, and now even utilises some of the strange experiences of psychosis to gain new insights in his academic work in English Literature.
He has recently finished an MA and continues to be passionate about reading, researching and listening to new ways of communicating and dealing with difficult experiences. It’s his hope that he can use these personal and academic insights to help broaden perspectives in mental health training, helping staff and service users alike to recognise their unique strengths and values.
